BARTLESVILLE The Allen softball team got two commanding wins on Thursday in Oklahoma.
The Lady Devils swept Oklahoma Wesleyans junior varsity squad 15-5 and 13-0. The wins move them to 3-6 on the season.
A five-hit, five-RBI game for sophomore center fielder Chelsey Henry led the way for Allen in game one as the Lady Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead after a four-run fourth inning.
They added on another run in the fourth but Wesleyan answered back in the bottom of the inning with five runs to cut their lead to 7-5.
The Lady Devils changed pitchers just one out into the third inning, allowing freshman Ashtyn Jurging to take over. Jurging closed out the final three and two-thirds innings, allowing just one hit in that span while striking out six.
Allen added another run in the fifth, three more in the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh to push their lead to 10 runs.
Freshman first baseman Madisyn Thompson turned in four hits and an RBI in the win followed by two hits each for freshman left fielder Olivia Wilcox, sophomore third baseman Darby Lewis, sophomore catcher Sam Greninger, freshman second baseman Lauren Mills, freshman
shortstop Jo-Elle Natividad, freshman right fielder Izzy Cunningham and Jurging.
As impressive as their opening performance was, their second win was even more so.
Starter Jurging and freshman reliever Chloe Enderud combined for a five-inning no-hitter. Jurging struck out four and Enderud struck out one. Combined, they walked four batters.
Offensively, it didnt take Allen long to rack up 10 runs. They got six in the first, three in the second and one in the third before finishing things off with three more in the top of the fourth to get the 13.
Lewis, freshman Meg Kirk, Jurging, and Thompson each had two hits. Thompson recorded three RBIs on her two hits and Greninger managed to clear the bases and score herself with her one hit in the game.
Assuming weather holds, the Lady Devils will play their first home games of the season a week from Saturday when they host a doubleheader versus Seminole State College (Okla.) before playing a doubleheader versus Des Moines Area Community College on Sunday, March 3.
