Both Allen County men and women came up short on the road Tuesday with the men falling to Garden City 94-74 and the women 75-67.
The Red Devil men are now 2-6 and 0-4 in conference play while the women are 3-5 and 1-3 in KJCCC play.
Garden City got out to a quick 16-6 lead over the Red Devil men in first six minutes of the game. The Red Devils were able to keep the Broncbusters lead to around 10 until Garden City broke open the game with a 14-4 run to take a 21-point lead with eight minutes to play in the half.
A 10-0 run by the Red Devils got Allen County back within 11 and the lead stayed around there until halftime.
Garden City came out in the second half strong, opening with a 10-1 run to push its lead back to 21 forcing the Red Devils to call a timeout.
The Red Devils didn’t get closer than 14 points the rest of the game as the Broncbusters’ scoring continued without interruption.
The Red Devils shot a reasonable 44.4 percent but Garden City was lights out, hitting 55.2 percent of its field goals. The Broncbusters also out-rebounded the Red Devils by 10 and were a plus-10 on the assist-to-turnover ratio while ACC was minus-5. Garden City out-scored the Red Devils in the paint 52-18.
Sophomore Tyler Williams and freshman Tevin Townsend each had respectable games scoring 23 and 20 each. They were the only Red Devils in double figures.
Meanwhile, the Lady Devils were able to keep it close but like so many games this season didn’t have enough in the tank to get the win.
The Lady Devils led by three after the first quarter but after leading by as much as six in the start of the second quarter, Garden City took the lead with two minutes left in the half and held onto it for the majority of the rest of the game.
The Lady Busters kept Allen County at arm’s length for the majority of the third quarter but it was the fourth where the Lady Devils unleashed their comeback. Jakira Wilson tied it up at 54 with seven and a half minutes left in the game and gave the Lady Devils the lead two minutes later by hitting a couple of free throws.
A 7-0 lead with four minutes to play gave the Lady Busters some cushion again and despite the Lady Devils best efforts, they could not get the lead back.
Free throws and rebounds were the killers for Allen County as they missed seven from the stripe and were outrebounded by 11.
Wilson led the way for Allen County off the bench scoring 17 to go along with 15 for Tamera Shaver and 12 for Kamri Summons.
Allen County will return home this weekend to take on Butler.
