CHANUTE — Late-inning rallies worked and didn’t work for Allen County Community College’s softball team Thursday.
The Red Devils finally got in the Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader at Neosho County Community College. The two teams were to have played March 8 but weather postponed it twice.
Allen County and Neosho County went five innings without scoring in the opener. The Red Devils scored five runs in the sixth and it held up for a 5-0 win.
Lenzie Boring picked up the pitching win as she gave up four hits and one walk. She struck out nine.
Kelci Owens led off the sixth with a walk and Boring had a single with one gone. Jenna Sigg drew a walk and Callie Umholtz had an RBI single.
Kylie Taylor and Kayla Johnston, both had two singles in the game, had base hits in the inning. The Red Devils took advantage of three Panther errors.
Allen County didn’t score in the second game until the sixth inning again. This time the Red Devils trailed 3-0 as Neosho County had single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Sigg drew a walk and Umholtz hit a two-run home run. That was it for ACCC.
Sigg and Taylor each had a single. Boring and Ashley Ribelin hit a double apiece. Alex Hill took the pitching loss. She allowed nine hits and struck out three.
Allen County is 9-7 in conference play and 25-13 overall. The Red Devils played at Hutchinson Friday and are at Hesston today. They go to Highland Tuesday.
