Allen County Community College’s Red Devils dropped an 8-4 decision to visiting Labette Community College Tuesday. They came back to win 3-1 in the nine-inning contest.
The Red Devils are 17-15 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play, sitting in fourth place. They are 23-19 overall.
Allen County has Fort Scott Community College’s Greyhounds returning to town this afternoon to resume action in a doubleheader halted by rain last week.
Fort Scott leads 7-3 in the top of the fourth inning of the first game.
Against the Cardinals Tuesday, the Red Devils matched the visitors hit for hit — 10 apiece. But they couldn’t match runs.
Allen County got single runs in the first and fourth innings. Labette’s big inning was the fourth when it scored four runs.
David Ormiston, John Michael Moore and Ben Pearson pitched for ACCC. Hitting two singles each were Connor McCrite, Curtiss Bunch and Wyatt Hall.
Ryan Fike doubled. Hitting a single apiece were Brayden Brumley, Marcus Peavler and Michael Schell.
In the second game, the Red Devils got a strong pitching effort by Mark Thompson, who went seven innings. He allowed one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Aaron Burke got the save, working two innings of scoreless and hitless baseball. He walked one and struck out two.
Allen County scored two runs in the fourth to go up 2-1 then added a run in the fifth. Fike doubled for the Red Devils. Brad Alberts and Peavler each had two singles.
McCrite and Michael Samuels each had a single.
