COFFEYVILLE After two straight losses, the Allen Community College mens soccer team was able to rebound against Coffeyville on Wednesday.
The 5-3 win puts the Red Devils at 1-2 in the conference, and vying for a place in the Jayhawk Conference playoffs.
ACC began early with a corner kick from Davi Studart leading to a Coffeyville own-goal to put the Red Devils up 1-0. The Red Devils added to their lead in the 5th minute when
Studart found Alejandro Cabrerea unmarked at the back post to make the score 2-0.
The Red Devils got their third goal in the 17th minute after an effort on goal from Roshod Nembhard was deflected to Jordan Mase, who buried it into the back of the net.
After jumping out to a three-goal lead, Coffeyville fired back in the 24th and 27th minute to put themselves within reach. ACC was able to regain their three-goal cushion before halftime when Studarts corner found the head of Maynor Bonilla, and Nembhard found Mase for his second goal of the afternoon.
In the second half, ACC had numerous opportunities to put the game to bed, but were unable to finish their chances. Although Coffeyville was able to earn a goal back, the Red Devils were able to hold on for the 5-3 win. ACC controlled 75% of possessions leading to 20 shots with 10 on target. Zakk Wilce and Ajay Murry both featured for ACC in goal, making a combined seven saves.
The Red Devils will be back at home today for another conference matchup against Neosho at 4 p.m.
