Allen Community Colleg’s normally potent offense was slowed on Thursday during a doubleheader at Johnson County Community College.
The Red Devils were held to just four runs in each game as Johnson County swept them by scores of 9-4 and 5-4.
The game two one-run defeat was practically painful for the Red Devils. They carried a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Matt Sostarich and Brett Nice combined to pitch the first seven innings and Nice was rolling going into the frame.
Johnson County quickly chased Nice from the game and Allen turned to reliever Beau Zeihen to close the door and seal the win.
Zeihen gave up two runs of his own and one charged to Nice.
The Red Devils could not rally back in the ninth and they took the lose, dropping their season record to 25-21.
Allen got home runs from both Caeden Harris and Cameron Pope in the narrow defeat, but failed to get much else rolling on offense, as they were held to just six hits.
GAME ONE was a similiar story for the Red Devil offense. They were again held to just runs.
Pope and Roberto Enriquez each had two hits as Allen finished with eight as a team.
The Red Devils were shutout through the first six innings of play before mounting a comeback attempt in the seventh inning.
Dylan Warner had the big hit of the inning. He hit a triple that scored a pair of Red Devils.
Enriquez and Pope had the other two RBIs for Allen.
Both Enriquez and Pope had two hits in the game one loss.
Allen hosts Johnson County on Saturday.
