TOPEKA — After beginning the season 10-23, it seemed unlikely that the Allen Community College softball team would be able to advance to the second round of regionals this season. They did just that last week and although that trip did not go the way they wanted, just making it there is a great accomplishment that half the region’s teams can’t say they did.
The Red Devils went 0-2 in Topeka with a 4-1 loss to Johnson County Community College and a 12-8 loss to Murry State College.
In the opener with the Cavaliers, the Red Devil bats could not get going as they mustered just three hits as a team in support of Sierra Thompson.
Thompson pitched a complete game and allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Against Murry State, sophomore Raegan Beckley gave up five runs in the opening frame, but settled in after that and her team crawled back to a tie game  after six innings.
The Red Devils gave up six runs in the seventh inning and weren’t able to recover as they fell 12-8.
Beckley allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Freshman Winter Henry led the Red Devils with four hits while freshman Dela Boyd had three.

BASEBALL
The Red Devils’ baseball season came to an end at Barton Community College this weekend in the first round of regionals.
