Robby Enriquez and Kaitlyn Shoemaker took home the top honors at the Red Devils’ Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday.
Enriquez was named the 2016-17 Male Athlete of the Year. The sophomore right fielder for the Red Devil baseball team is hitting .438 this season with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs in 42 games.
“It is a very well-deserved honor,” Allen coach Clint Stoy said. “The thing that is most impressive about Robby is that he is a better person than he is a baseball player.”
Shoemaker was named the Female Athlete of the Year. The sophomore runner is coming off a national championship in the indoor  5000-meters, and is the heavy favorite to win the outdoor 5000 meters and 10000 meters national titles later this spring.
“I don’t even know what to say, it is just icing on the cake, honestly,” Shoemaker said. “Obviously, I’ve worked hard over these last two years and I am very honored to be given this award.”
Larry Manes and Nelda Cuppy were also honored during the banquet for their contributions to Red Devil athletics.
