HIGHLAND — Allen County Community College’s volleyball team did not play Monday as scheduled. The Red Devils’ match with Northeastern Oklahoma of Miami, Okla., was rescheduled to Oct. 19.
The Red Devils are coming off a weekend at the Highland Community College Invitational. The Devils were 2-2 in the tournament.
“This by far was an highest level of intense volleyball we’ve played,” said Jessica Peters, ACCC head coach. “Friday was rough for us losing against host Highland, which is ranked No. 18 and a roller coaster of a match against Central Methodist University’s junior varsity.
“We wanted to come back Saturday with a good start and we did.”
Highland beat Allen County 25-16, 25-12, 25-22. The Red Devils came away with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 victory over CMU junior varsity.
Against a much taller Kankakee team on Saturday, the Red Devils found a groove. They posted a 25-12, 25-19, 25-12 victory.
“That allowed us to feel confident about the ability we truly have. We took that into the ‘re-match’ with Kansas City, Kan., Community College. We started off every set with a lead,” Peters said.
Peters said Allen County would push to point 10 then the tables would turn and the Red Devils had to play catch up.
Kansas City defeated Allen County 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.
For the tournament, Alli Jenick delivered 39 kills for the Red Devils and Makhala Giardina put down 30 kills. Jordyne Seichepine provided plenty of strength to the ACCC net attack with 29 kills and five solo blocks plus had three assisted blocks.
Hayley Mertens had 19 kills in the four matches and two solo blocks. Giardina had four assisted blocks and one solo block. Randi Billings made five assisted blocks and one solo.
