Allen County Community College’s baseball team went to Oklahoma Thursday and Sunday and had different results in each trip.
The Red Devils recorded their first two wins of the 2012 season Thursday. They beat host Oklahoma Wesleyan 9-5 and 11-6 in Bartlesville, Okla.
On Sunday, Allen County dropped two three-run games to host Connors State College at Warner, Okla. They lost 5-2 and 3-0.
The Red Devils are 2-5 on the season.
They host Oklahoma Wesleyan Thursday for their home opener. First pitch is at 3 p.m. at Red Devil Field.
Allen County opens Jayhawk Eastern Division play this weekend at home. They host Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheaders start at 1 p.m. each day.
Tanner Lee picked up the first win of the season for ACCC pitchers. He threw five innings in the 9-5 win Thursday. He allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out six.
Jake Johnson came on in relief to pitch two innings. He was charged with one run on four hits and struck out three.
Caleb Wilburn and Nathan Russell had back-to-back doubles in the second inning and in the third inning for ACCC. The Red Devils scored two runs in the second and four in the third.
Allen County added single runs in the fourth and fifth and led 8-5 at the end of six innings. The Red Devils pushed a run across in the seventh for the final margin.
Russell was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles. Wilburn had two doubles. Sky Bushyhead reached on a bunt single.
Hitting a single each were Garrett Rasch, Kyle Fultz, Travis Stafford, Kyle Johnson and Garrett Hess.
In the second game, Allen County used six hits in the second to score five runs and take a 5-2 lead. Up 7-3, the Red Devils plated four runs in the sixth on their way to an 11-6 victory.
Joe Saia was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk. He struck out three.
Gage Dickerson pitched one inning of no-hit, shutout baseball, striking out two. Bill Wigington started the seventh and allowed three runs on three hit batters. Conor Burns came in and got Oklahoma Wesleyan to hit into a double play then struck a batter out. He did issue a walk and hit a batter.
