COFFEYVILLE — The Red Devil men’s and women’s basketball teams opened the conference season at Coffeyville Community College on Saturday.
The women lost in the opener to the Red Ravens, 69-44, after a 22-2 run to begin the third quarter blew the game wide open.
The loss drops Allen Community College to 1-4 overall this season.
Freshman Sequerah Alleyne led the Red Devils with 11 points and five rebounds.
The Allen men also fell at the hands of Coffeyville. They were narrowly defeated 83-79.
Allen’s DaRon Mims led all scorers with 22 points, but his three-point attempt with just a few seconds remaining in the game missed the mark. Coffeyville was able to seal the game with a free throw.
Sophomore Quentin Blaue was Allen’s second-leading scorer with 19 points and made five of his six three-point attempts.
Allen’s teams will return home on Wednesday for a rivalry tilt with Neosho County Community College. The women will play at 6 p.m. and the men are scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
