Red Devils fall to Longview at home

In their final home game of the regular season, Allen Community College’s Red Devils came up short Wednesday. 

The Red Devils dropped a 7-5 decision in a one-game-only outing with visiting Longview Community College. Allen County rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth but left the tying runs on base.

Longview broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the seventh inning. It added a run in the top of the ninth.

With the loss, the Red Devils fell to 20-29 on the season. They have five games remaining in the regular season.

This weekend the Red Devils are at Neosho County Community College (38-14) for the final Jayhawk Eastern Division four-game series of the season. Allen is 13-19 and in seventh place in the Jayhawk East standings while Neosho County is 21-11 in conference play and third in the standings.

Allen completes its regular season schedule at Longview on Tuesday.

Longview scored single runs in the first and fourth innings Wednesday. The Red Devils tied the game with two runs in their half of the fourth.

Travis Stafford singled to open the inning and Caleb Wilburn reached on an error. Garrett Hess also reached on an error with one out as Stafford scored. Drake Koerner’s base hit drove in the tying run.

Allen’s pitchers struggled in the seventh, opening the door for Longview. 

Allen trailed 7-2 when it came to bat in the bottom of the ninth. With one gone, Cody Amerine singled and scored on a one-out base hit by Sky Bushyhead.

Jaren Moorman had a bunt single then Bushyhead scored on a double by Tim Lewis. After a pitching chance by Longview, Allen’s Nathan Russel drove in a run with a double. Longview got Stafford to ground out to second to end the game.

The other hits in the game for Allen were two doubles by Wilburn and another single for Moorman.

Jake Johnson, Gage Dickerson, Dalton Dreifurst, Lucas Westervelt and Bill Wigington pitched for Allen. Johnson, Dickerson, Dreifurst and Lucas each had two innings of work. Wigington pitched one inning.
