Red Devils end series with a split

After opening the series with a road split on Thursday, the Allen County men wrapped up their four games versus Highland Community College with a home split on Saturday.
The Red Devils won the first game 7-4 before losing the second 5-2. Allen County moves to 14-4 this season and 6-2 in conference play.
The Red Devils led by seven in the first game after five innings before the Scotties tacked on four runs in the top of sixth. The Scotties couldn’t get anything across in the top of the seventh, so Allen County came away with the win.
Catcher Matt Phipps, second baseman Aaron Mason and first baseman Sky-Lar Culver each plated two runs while starter Austin Crow (2-0) earned the win with three innings of work. He gave up no runs on two hits and a walk while recording three strikeouts.
In the second game, Highland jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings. Allen County cut it to four in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get anything else going in the final two innings to complete the comeback.
Zach Adams had the only RBI for Allen County while Culver, right fielder Brayden Whitchurch, designated hitter Nathan Best and third baseman Tony Dougan each recorded two hits. Starter Taylor Gulick (1-1) earned the loss by giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in two innings.
The Red Devils will open a four-game series with rival Neosho at home on Thursday.
