FORT SCOTT — Allen County ran into some struggles at Fort Scott on Thursday.

The Red Devils dropped the first two games of a four-game home-and-home series 9-4 and 11-3. The losses move Allen County to 16-8 overall and 8-6 in league play.

A run in the top of the first gave the Red Devils their only lead of the game and the Greyhounds snatched that away quickly, scoring three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.

Fort Scott added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead and put up two more in the bottom of the fifth after Allen County scored one in the top of the fifth.

The Red Devils scored two in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough to get to the bottom of the inning.

Starter Nate Postlethwait (3-1) earned his first loss of the year, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three in three innings. He also gave up the first of Fort Scott’s Cole Soloman’s two home runs.

Second baseman Aaron Mason homered for the Red Devils and was one of three Red Devils to scored a run including first baseman Sky-Lar Culver and left fielder Justus Burke. The fourth Allen County run was scored on an error.

Mason also led the team in hits with two along with centerfielder Kenny Allred.

In the second game, the Red Devils once again took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first but Allen County tied it up with a run in the bottom of the first and added four more runs in the next two innings.

Allen County got a run across in the top of the fourth but the Greyhounds added two more runs in both the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings.

The Red Devils scored a final run in the top of the eighth and Fort Scott scored two more in their last at-bats of the game in the bottom of the eighth. ACC had a final chance for a comeback in the top of the ninth but couldn’t get anything going.

Fort Scott proved to still have the pop from game one as once again they homered twice off of Red Devil pitchers.

Jacob Hollingsworth (0-1) earned the loss for Allen County, going two innings and allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out just one batter.

Left fielder Dylan Price homered for the Red Devils and along with Culver and catcher Matt Phipps was responsible for all of Allen County’s runs.

The Red Devils did not have a batter with more than one hit in the game.
