Red Devils defeat Eagles

UNIONTOWN – Erie High’s Red Devils came into the UHS gym and walked out with a 41-28 win over host Uniontown High’s Eagles Friday night.
The Eagle girls fell flat in the second quarter and went scoreless. Erie fired in eight points to push its lead to 21-9 by intermission.
Uniontown got back after in the third quarter. The Eagles score 17 points but could not turn away the Red Devils. The Red Devils added 12 to their total.
In the fourth quarter, Erie sealed the non-league win over Uniontown on an 8-2 run.
“A poor offensive performance in the second quarter pretty much did us in tonight,” said Ken Holt, Eagle head coach. “Even twith that it never really fealt like it was over until with a couple of minutes left in the game.”
Holt said both teams played pretty well defensively. He said the Eagle girls were very disappointed but I told thm there was not time to feel sorry for ourselves because we have a tough upcoming week.
The Eagle girls are 5-2 overall. They travel to Oswego Tuesday in Three Rivers League play and to Frontenac next Friday for a non-league game.
Uniontown shot just 28 percent, 13 of 46, from the field and hit 2 of 5 free throw attempts. Erie was 15 of 46 for 33 percent from the field and cashed in 10 of 16 charity attempts.
DaNisha Robinson and Hayden Rathbun each scored nine points and had five rebounds for the Eagles.
Mandie Ridge pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists. Lauren Rockhold also had three assists.
Bret McGuire paced the Red Devils with 18 points.
