Penalty-kick goals boosted Allen County Community College’s men to a 5-1 victory on their home soccer field Thursday.
The Red Devils converted three penalty kick calls into goals against Pratt Community College’s Beavers. Allen County was up 1-0 at halftime on a penalty kick.
When Leon Guy got taken down in the penalty box in front of the Pratt goal, the Red Devils were awarded a penalty kick. George Uttute buried the ball into the net past Pratt’s goalkeeper. That came with 4:03 left in the first half.
Allen County kept the pressure on Pratt throughout the second half. Chase Tjelmeland made it 2-0 on a penalty kick at the 39:12 mark of the second half.
Two minutes later, Henrique Pinto scored Allen County’s third goal. Tyler Jordan got his penalty kick past the Pratt goalkeeper at the 31:20 mark. Matt Searcy’s goal with 29:12 left made it 5-0.
Pratt scored with 21:25 remaining in the game. Allen County goalkeeper Jordan Drake wasn’t as busy as Pratt’s Scott Robertson.
The Red Devils possessed the soccer ball well. The ACCC defenders helped keep shots on goal down.
Allen County’s men improved to 3-6 overall. They are 3-3 in Region VI play and 2-3 in Jayhawk Conference.
Allen County’s women played a defensive battle with Pratt Thursday. With a strong wind blowing from the north, each team had really just one strong opportunity to score in the game.
There were five yellow cards issued to players and coaches by officials during the first half. Allen County’s Autumn Ferrell was issued a red card, which is an ejection, during the first half. Ferrell cannot play in ACCC’s next game.
Allen County played a man down the rest of the contest.
The Red Devils and Beavers went to overtime and the game ended in a scoreless tie. That put the ACCC women at 4-5-1 for the season. They are 3-3-1 in Region VI play and 2-3-1 in conference action.
Allen County’s women lost 10-0 to sixth-ranked Butler Community College on Wednesday at home.
The Red Devil teams are playing at Chanute against Neosho County Community College tonight. The women’s game is at 5 o’clock followed by the men’s game at 7 at the Chanute Community Sports Complex.
