OVERLAND PARK — Allen Community College’s mens basketball clinched first place in Region VI East Division 1 on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils defeated Johnson County 87-66. They secured the region because Cowley beat Independence. The result means the Red Devils have a first round bye in the Region VI tournament.
With the win, Allen is also still in first in conference play.
ACC led 35-29 at halftime and extended their lead early in the second half to seal the win. Allen scored 58 points in the paint compared to Johnson’s 16 points.
Courtney Stockard led the Red Devils and had another double-double. He scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds — he is only seven points shy of reaching 1,000 career points at Allen. Jordan Nanton scored 19 points, making 8-12 shots from the field. Jameel Henson scored 11 points and grabbed nine boards. Jermaine Long scored 10 points and had seven rebounds.
ACC (16-12) will play at KCK on Saturday. The Red Devils wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at home against Coffeyville for sophomore night.
