Allen County Community College’s Red Devil women opened the 2010-2011 basketball season at home Tuesday.
They gave their fans what they wanted — a victory under first-year head coach Marcus Hicks.
The Red Devils beat the visiting Southwestern College junior varsity team 59-49.
Quenona Walker hit crucial free throws in the final three mintues of the game to seal the win for ACCC. Sophomore Danielle Best led the Red Devils with 11 points.
Nicole Swick pulled down 12 rebounds. Hicks said Kynesha Nisbett put in crucial minutes after going out with a knee injury.
The 1-0 Red Devils travel to Nevada, Mo., this weekend. They play in the Cottey College Classic.
Allen County takes on Hesston at 7 p.m. Friday then plays Missouri Valley’s junior varsity at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Red Devil women will play at home again in the Red Devil Classic, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13.
