COLUMBUS, Neb. — Allen Community College’s women survived their toughest test of the season, relying on defense and ball control to emerge with a 1-0 squeaker over Central Community College Wednesday.

Allen controlled possession through much of the first half, but could not find the back of the net, with Central’s goalkeeper coming up with several key saves.

The trend continued in the second half.

Allen’s Yasmin Evans controlled the midfield, winning most of the 50-50 chances to possess the ball, and intercepting several Raider attacks.

The Red Devils averted disaster when goalkeeper Phoenix Michaelis came up with a big save late in the match.

Moments later, in the game’s 85th minute, Allen’s Autumn Wyatt finally broke through with a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box to put the Red Devils on top.

Allen held on from there to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Allen is at Pratt today before returning home against Hesston Wednesday and Southeast Community College next Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
