Earlier this season, Perry Carroll showed off his buzzer-beating magic when a half-court heave versus Labette won the Red Devils their second game of the season and showed a flash of what could be possible.
Carroll found himself in a similar situation Wednesday, but couldnt pull off the same feat. This time, the game-winning half-court shot hit the backboard and came off the front of the rim as time expired, ending Allen Community Colleges seven-game win streak with a 68-66 loss to Seward.
The loss moves the Red Devils to 10-2 overall at 2-1 in KJCCC play.
Allen had an early lead and held it midway through the first half but a Seward run pushed them ahead 28-27 by halftime.
The Red Devils regained the lead and pushed it out to as much as 11 points, seemingly putting the win away. That is until Allen allowed several turnovers which led to easy scores for the Saints and erasing the Red Devil lead.
Seward took a late five- point lead but a late three from Trez Hankins and two free throws from Carroll tied things up at 66.
Seward then had the ball with the shot clock turned off when Saint Reggie Miller drove the lane with five seconds left.
Freshman Malik Hardmon fouled Miller, sending him to the line. Miller made both shots and with 2.3 seconds remaining, the ball went to ACCs Carroll, whose desperation shot to end the game bounced away, giving the Red Devils their first loss in nearly a month.
Carroll had 19 points followed by 14 for Hankins and 12 for Hardmon and sophomore Nathan Williams.
The Lady Devils also fell to Seward. The 14th ranked Lady Saints won 103-68, which landed them their ninth-straight loss this season. Individual stats were unavailable. They are now 2-10 and 0-3 in conference play.
Both teams will travel to Colby on Sunday and before heading down to Dodge City on Monday to wrap up the first semester.

The Allen Men got a little bit of national attention on Tuesday when they appeared in the receiving votes section of the NJCAA Divison I Mens Basketball Rankings.
The Red Devils find themselves 16 spots out of the top 25.
