The 2013 soccer seasons for Allen Community College men’s and women’s teams ended over the weekend at the Region VI playoffs.
The Red Devil women, amid their most successful season ever, fell Saturday afternoon to the 17th ranked Barton Community College, 2-0.
The loss ends Allen’s season at 9-9 overall.
“It was a good game,” Red Devil women’s coach Jeremy McGinnis said. “We had our opportunities, and we were with the 17th ranked team in the country until the end.”
Barton’s first goal came after the ball deflected off Red Devil goalkeeper Keelie Arbuckle’s shin as she blocked a shot late in the first half.
Allen narrowly missed on tying the score minutes later when Carleigh Konrade’s blast hit the crossbar.
“I thought it went in,” McGinnis said. “I saw the net shake, but it was just because the ball hit the bar.”
Kyleigh Rowe also came up empty on scoring opportunities, courtesy of the Barton goalkeeper.
“Every coach says this, but we have a good group of kids,” McGinnis said. “They’re definitely young, ornery girls, but they’re fun to be around.”
The men, meanwhile, hit the road Sunday to play Johnson County, and fell 4-1.
The loss puts the ACC men at 8-7.
