Red Devil softball rolls past Cottey

Not being able to play over the weekend, Allen County Community College’s softball team bounced visiting Cottey College Monday afternoon.
The Red Devils clobbered the Comets 10-0 in five innings and 12-4 in six innings. That pushed Allen County’s record to 14-12 overall.
The Red Devils take a 2-6 Jayhawk Eastern Division mark into today’s doubleheader at Kansas City, Kan., Community College. Allen County’s conference doubleheader in Independence Saturday was rescheduled to April 15 because of inclement weather.
Lenzie Boring limited Cottey College to two hits, walked one and struck out seven in Monday’s first game. Plus she touched off a seven-run first inning with a solo home run.
After scoring seven runs in the first inning, the Red Devils rolled along and added three in the fourth inning. The Red Devils had 13 hits in the game.
Tesla Allison connected for three singles while Kelsey Walters had two doubles. Callie Umholtz had a single and a double.
Kelci Owens doubled. Hitting a single each were Jenna Sigg, Kylie Taylor, Denise Swanson and Javyn Carl.
Sigg was 4-for-4 in the second game as Allen County cruised to a 12-4 win. Sigg had two three-run home runs. The second in the sixth ended the game via the run-rule.
Sigg’s first home run was in then first inning, when ACCC scored five runs. She also had two singles and stole home for a run in the second frame.
In the fourth, with two gone, Umholtz had a three-run, inside-the-park home run. She also had a single in the game.
Alex Hill was the winning pitcher for ACCC. She allowed seven hits and struck out five. Hill also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three base hits.
Walters had a triple. Swanson and Owens had a single apiece.
