INDEPENDENCE — Breaking out of a five-game losing skid at the expense of host Independence Community College’s Lady Pirates, Allen County Community College’s Red Devil women powered to an 11-0 victory Tuesday on the soccer pitch.
After that, the Red Devil men made it two wins in as many days with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Pirates. The ACCC men pushed their Jayhawk Conference record to 3-5-1 and overall mark to 4-6-1.
The Red Devil women kept the Independence women winless for the season (0-9, 0-11) in Jayhawk Conference play. Allen County improved to 3-7 in conference and 4-8 overall.
Leading the charge up front were Whitney Colblentz and Jen Carlson, each with two goals and three assists for the Red Devil women. Erika Williams kicked in two goals and and an assist and Kayla Besmer scored two goals.
Caroline Demague found the net once and made two assists. Mo Shaffer and Janelle Gonzalez each scored a goal and made an assist on goals.
Chelsea Reynolds was credited with six saves in goal for the ACCC women.
Zack Hanks continued to be a wall in goal for the ACCC men. He had 15 saves. Allen County’s goals were scored by Matt Searcy and Chase Tjelmeland.
Riley Shaffer and Melvin Gray each had an assist.
