Allen Community College mens basketball was victorious Saturday night over Independence Community College and completed the season series sweep.
The Red Devils topped Independence, 78-71.
Allen broke out of a recent slump where they struggled both offensively and defensively in a pair of blow-out losses to Butler Community College and Cowley County Community College last week.
Jermaine Long — whose struggles have been linked directly with the team’s overall struggles — broke out with a team-high 18 points.
Long was on the bench in the first half with foul trouble. Even so, Allen had a 34-29 lead at the half.
The second half belonged to Long, however. The sophomore not only heated up from three-point land, but also went 6-of-8 from the foul line.
Quentin Blaue scored 17 points for Allen and hit five treys. Darnell Jones-Bowie and Jameel Henson each added 11 points for the winners.
Allen wraps up its regular season with a home game against Neosho County Community College on Monday.
THE RED DEVIL women lost their matchup with Independence, 82-66.
Ashley Washington led Allen with 19 points, while Mc-Kena Arlt scored 16 points in the loss.
Ashley Sally also had a big night for the Red Devils with a double-double. Sally had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Allen trailed at halftime by 11 points, but actually won the third quarter 21-18. The fourth belonged to Independence, however, and they pulled away with a 27-17 final quarter.
Simone Costa scored a game-high 22 points for Independence.
