DODGE CITY — An extended drive didn’t affect Allen Community College’s men Sunday.
The Red Devils scored two first-half goals on the way to a 3-1 victory over Dodge City Community College.
“You never know what’s going to happen after you’ve ridden the bus for five hours, but we played well,” Red Devil soccer coach Doug Desmarteau said.
Dominic Nwagwu and Brett Rex scored first-half goals for Allen before Eric Rivera scored early in the second half to push the lead to 3-0.
“I was happy that we weren’t satisfied at 1-0 or 2-0,” Desmarteau said. “We still kept trying to score, even when it was 3-0.”
The only blemish came in the form of injury. Dorian Fox left the game with an ankle injury, while Rivera exited after taking a blow to the head.
The victory lifts the Red Devils to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in Jayhawk Conference play.
“Hopefully, we can get a winning streak going to put ourselves in better position for the playoffs,” Desmarteau said. “We want to hit our peak right now.”

THE RED DEVIL women weren’t as fortunate, dropping a 2-1 decision in overtime.
Stats from the game were unavailable.
The loss drops the ACC women to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Red Devil squads are in Arkansas City Wednesday to take on Cowley.
