INDEPENDENCE — Overtime games have not been kind to Allen County Community College’s men.
After Monday night’s makeup game at Independence, Allen County is 1-3 this season when a game has gone to an extra five-minute period. The Red Devils dropped a 75-69 decision to the Pirates Monday.
The Red Devils battled back from a 41-35 halftime deficit. They outscored Independence 29-23 in the second half, forging a 64-all tie by the end of regulation.
The Pirates owned an 11-5 scoring edge in the overtime to win. The loss put ACCC at 8-4 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play and 13-10 overall.
Allen County’s men are tied with Neosho County (8-4, 16-8) in third place in the Jayhawk East standings. Allen County travels to Highland (6-7, 11-13) Wednesday.
The Red Devils got 18 points from sophomore guard Anthony Clagett. Clagett went 11 of 12 at the free-throw line.
Sophomore forward Andra Bailey had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds plus five assists. Sophomore guard Aaron Jackson and freshman forward Keevis Tukes each had 11 points
Freshman forward Dennis Rumph controlled 15 rebounds. Gavin Cole, a sophomore guard, and Bailey each had three steals.
Also on Monday, Allen County’s women lost 71-55 to Independence. The Red Devil women are 2-10 in Jayhawk East play and 8-16 overall.
Allen County goes to Highland (4-9, 3-11) on Wednesday.
The Red Devil teams host Kansas City, Kan., teams Saturday. The women’s game is at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s contest at 8 o’clock.
