Red Devil men capture victory

Playing at home for the final time before Christmas break, Allen County Community College’s Red Devil men made the most of it. They rolled to a 97-84 win over Southwestern College’s junior varsity Tuesday.
Terrell Shears had a season-high 24 points plus grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Red Devils. Allen County had four other players score in double figures.
Allen County shot 53 percent, 36 of 68, from the field. The Red Devils went 79 percent from the free-throw line, downing 23 of 29 attempts.
The Red Devils were up by five, 46-41, at halftime, then outscored Southwestern’s junior varsity 51-43 in the second half.
Allen County’s Tyrone Jones poured in 16 points and Terrence Williams had 13 points. Fields added 12 points and Sam Bautista scored 10 points.
Rickey Hollis dished out 10 assists and Fields had six assists. Both players made two steals.
ACCC’s Canon Fields was whistled for a technical foul in the second half.
Southwestern shot 41.5 percent, 27 of 65, from the field and cashed in 24 of 33 free throw attempts. Darell Veal scored 21 points for Southwestern while Blake Nachbor had 14 and Spencer Murphy scored 10 points.
Allen County is in the Hutchinson Classic this weekend. The Red Devils play Hutchinson on Friday and take on K-State-Salina Saturday.
