COFFEYVILLE — Allen Community College’s mens basketball team remained undefeated in Jayhawk East play with a 88-78 win over Coffeyville on Saturday. THE RED DEVIL women fell to Coffeyville on Saturday 108-35.
The Ravens started the game off with two 3-pointers to take a quick lead, but Allen’s Josh Sweet connected to get the Red Devils started. ACC took a 35-28 lead at the half.
In the second, Coffeyville couldn’t catch back up and the Red Devils got a win on the road.
“Allen did a great job of taking care of the basketball and getting quality shots deep into the shot clock,” coach Andy Shaw said.
Coffeyville is ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA and this marks Allen’s first win over a ranked opponent during Shaw’s tenure as coach. The Red Devils earned the win with great shooting. Allen shot 58 percent from the field for the entire game. The team was 8-18 shooting from beyond the arc and hit 22-30 free throws.
Sweet led everyone in scoring with 27 points — he made 7 of 10 3-pointers, grabbed four rebounds and had two assists. Courtney Stockard had a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jermaine Long scored 11 points and had three assists.
Allen (13-9 overall, 5-0 conference) hosts Highland at 8 p.m. on Wednesday for homecoming.
Allen didn’t have any players hit double-figures in scoring. The Ravens had five players score more than 10 points. Devin Cosper led Coffeyville with 26 points.
ACC shot 28 percent for the game, while Coffeyville finished at 59 percent. The Ravens outrebounded the Red Devils 50 to 18. Allen also had 29 turnovers compared to Coffeyville’s 14.
Rachael Bruce led Allen with nine points and five rebounds. Josie Reilly and Erika Essman each scored six points.
Allen (5-18 overall, 1-5 conference) plays Highland at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
