Red Devil bats heat up against Fort Scott 

The scoring came in bunches for the Allen Red Devil baseball team when they defeated Fort Scott in a couple of games at home Thursday.

The Allen Community College baseball team took a pair of games at home against Fort Scott on Thursday. 

The Red Devils (22-21; 11-13) exploded at the plate, including a 23-13 win in game two. Allen dropped a pair of road games at Fort Scott Sunday. 

Game one 

The Red Devils got behind early when Fort Scott scored one run in the first and three more runs in the top of the second. Allen brought home a run in the first and scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth for the come from behind victory.

Gage Stark led Allen at the plate where he drove in a team-high three runs while collecting two hits. Cade Schupp also knocked in two runs and had two hits. The lone other run came off the bat of Colton Ayres. 

Brett Buchanan started on the mound for the Red Devils and worked five innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He also struck out four, walked three and served up a home run. 

Fort Scott’s Jaret Nelson and Tresten Shigematsu got a piece of Buchanan and each drove in two runs while also knocking two hits each. Alex Johnson started on the mound for the Greyhounds and allowed only two runs on three hits through four frames. 

Jett Feltman relieved Johnson in the fifth inning and threw the final two innings, allowing four runs on three hits. Feltman was tacked with the loss after Allen came from behind. 

Game two

It was an offensive onslaught in the second game in a 23-13 win for Allen. 

Six Red Devils drove in multiple runs, including Gage Stark and Carson Shepherd’s team-high four RBIs apiece. Blake Veneman also had a three-hit game while Braden Hendrix, Stark and Carson each had two hits. 

Four Allen pitchers combined to secure the victory. Schupp started and lasted two innings, allowing four runs on two hits. Ethan Nissen tossed 1.1 innings and served up five runs on three hits. Jack Bland got the win after working 3.1 innings and allowing three runs.

Jack Neill then finished on the mound for Allen by recording the final three outs and allowed one run on one hit but it was still enough for the 10-run win. 

The Red Devils were able to get a hold of Fort Scott pitcher Wyatt Foley who gave up seven runs on five hits in the first inning alone. The Greyhounds fielded six other pitchers who combined to serve up 16 runs. 

Allen lost at Fort Scott on Sunday, 5-4 and 14-3. Results were unavailable at the time of publication.
