Christmas will be a bit merrier for youngsters served by Hope Unlimited, thanks to a hearty donation by Allen Community College athletes.
Students from all 10 ACC athletics programs — its baseball, softball, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, track and cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, golf and cheer and dance teams — raised funds through the fall for their Dec. 10 shopping spree.
All told, the students raised more than $1,300 toward the effort, which they took to the Iola Walmart Supercenter.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity for the student-athletes to be a part of ‘giving back’ to our community who supports us in many ways,” said Jessica Peters, ACC athletics director. “It also puts things into perspective that we have a lot to be thankful for this time of year.”
Hope Unlimited serves area victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault and their children.
