Thirteen event records were set at Tuesday’s 2012 Iola Middle School Invitational track meet. And one was by an IMS athlete.

Branden Plumlee not only broke the IMS Invitational mark in the seventh-grade boys’ 1600-meter race. He also set a new record for IMS seventh-grade boys in that event.

Plumlee took the gold medal in the 1600-meters in 5 minutes, 22.10 second. The previous IMS Invitational time was 5:23.28 set by Mason Skiles of Anderson County in 2011.

Plumlee’s time became the fastest 1600-meters run by an IMS seventh-grade boy since 2007. Christian Kauth had the old IMS record at 5:31.6.

Skiles probably didn’t mind losing the seventh-grade mark in the 1600. In the next race, the Anderson County eighth-grader trimmed almost three seconds off the meet’s eighth-grade boys’ time in the 1600-meters.

Skiles won the race in 5:07.70. The old mark was 5:10.4 by Gruber of Independence in 1996.

There were 18 schools at the 2012 IMS Invitational at Riverside Park. Four different schools won division team titles.

Leading Girard to its team victory in the eighth-grade boys’ division was Drew Davied. Davied pushed the IMS meet record in the high jump to 6 feet, 3 inches. The old mark was 6 feet set by Isiah Taylor of Parsons in 2011.

Girard scored 121 points for the team title. Iola Middle School’s Ponies were eighth with 29 points. Uniontown finished fourth with 44 points followed by Humboldt in fifth at 41 points. Marmaton Valley scored 17 points.

Girard’s eighth-grade boys’ medley relay team of Tanner Stout, Kolby Morrison, Trey Eaton and Laike Damman set a new mark in winning that race in 1:49.39. Coffeyville had the old record in 1:50.37 set in 2009.

The other two new records in the eighth-grade boys’ division was set by Girard runners.

Trey Eaton won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.49 seconds. In 2011, Taran Smith of Meadow View ran the race in 16.45 seconds. Laike Damman won the 800-meter run in 2:18.80, wiping out the 1986 mark of 2:19.6 set by Gillet of Central Heights.

Anderson County captured the eighth-grade girls’ title with 83 points. Iola finished fifth with 50 points. Humboldt was 11th with 16 points and Marmaton Valley scored one point for 17th.

Grace Broyles of Jayhawk-Linn set a new standard in the 100-meter hurdles. She won the race in 17.21 seconds. Rachel Stevenson of Edna had the old eighth-grade girls’ record in the event at 17.78 seconds set in 2011.

Parsons Middle School’s seventh-grade boys established four new records on the track in winning their division title with 86 points. The IMS Ponies were fourth with 55 points. Uniontown took 14th with seven points while Humboldt and Marmaton Valley did not score a point.
