WINFIELD — Allen Community College’s track team has taken to the outdoors quite well already.
In their first outdoor meet of the season, the Red Devils qualified three entrants for the national meet, while Terika Henry reset a pair of school records.
Allen competed Thursday at the Southwestern Invitational.
Among the highlights:
Henry reset school records in winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She completed the 100 in 11.89 seconds, while claiming gold in the 200 in 24.38 seconds, nearly one-half second quicker than her nearest pursuer.
“She will end up rewriting those records throughout the school year,” ACC head coach Vince DeGrado said.
The Red Devils also saw Chris Donald qualify for nationals in the 400-meter dash. He won the event in 47.87 seconds, while Allen’s 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams also qualified.
“I was very pleased with how we bounced back from our last performance as a team at the indoor nationals,” DeGrado said. “We looked like a completely different team, which was nice to see. Coach (Tony) Davis and I both understand what we could have done differently for the indoor season with our preparation, and we’ve already started that process.
“We felt like this meet was perfect to get us going in the right direction as we start the outdoor season,” he continued.
The ACC squad will take a handful of athletes to the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa Friday and Saturday. The next meet for the full squad will be April 6 at Emporia State.
