After starting winless, the Iola Middle School volleyball team found the perfect formula for A-and-B team wins on Monday evening over Osawatomie.
The B team played four sets, winning 25-18, 25-11, 25-17, and dropping one set by a score of 12-25. The B bombers were led by Maddy McVey, who picked up eight aces, two assists, and two kills.
Maddy has improved her game so much this season in both her skill and confidence, head coach Terri Carlin said.
Rylie Olson also had a superb night, chipping in six aces, along with a serve that handed the Ponies a match win. Jennica Churning and Jordan LaCrone added two aces, and Jaiden Emmons also picked up an ace serve. Kennedy Maier, Khyrei Anderson, and LeeAnn Maloney also got in the attack with providing one kill apiece.
On the A team side of things, the Ponies won all three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-17. Ten girls contributed to the three-set wins, with each girl finding their rhythm in the system.
Jakie Fager provided nine aces, and two kills. Fagers presence was complimented perfectly by Rio Lohman, who was a force at the net with six kills. Piper Aronson did a little bit of everything for the Ponies, accumulating four aces, one assist, and two kills. Carlin was impressed by McVey, who also featured for the A team, and came off the bench to provide four aces.
