Rains leaves Iola Legion tournament unfinished

Rain early Sunday morning washed out the second day of play in the annual Iola American Legion Post 15’s baseball tournament. So that left unfinished business for the five teams in the round-robin tournament.
Iola American Legion AA Indians and Chanute each won two games Saturday. Chanute beat Paola A 14-11 and downed Linn County 8-2.
The AA Indians scored six runs in the first inning against Linn County and rolled to a 10-3 victory. Linn County scored two runs in the second inning and one in the sixth. Iola got a run in the fifth and plated three runs in the seventh.
Dalton Smith was the winning pitcher for the AA Indians. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks and recording seven strikeouts. Ryan Latta threw two innings, giving up one run on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Ryan Latta ripped two singles and a double and Levi Ashmore had three singles. Clint Heffern singled and doubled and Corey Taylor hit two singles. Smith and Ethan Ericson each had a double. Mason Coons and Kris Collins each had a single.
Iola American Legion A Indians dropped their two games on Saturday in the tournament. That puts the A Indians at 4-2. They play Linn County at home Wednesday at Riverside Park.
The A Indians opened the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Paola A. Paola broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the seventh inning.
Garrett Catron singled and Trent Latta doubled for Iola in the first inning. An error by Paola allowed two runs to score.
Other hits in the game for Iola were a single each by Latta, Bryce Misenhelter and Drew Faulhaber. Aaron Barclay, Misenhelter and Thealvin Minor pitched for Iola.
Barclay went five innings and was charged with two runs on four hits, five walks and three hit batters. He struck out four. Misenhelter gave up two runs on two hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings of work.
The AA Indians pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 10-1 victory over A Indians. The A Indians scored their run in the fourth of the five-inning game.
Coons was the winning pitcher for the AA Indians, going the distance and giving up three hits, walking one and striking out five. Tyler Clubine pitched three innings for Iola A, allowing seven runs on two hits, six walks and one strikeout. Trey Wilson pitched one inning, giving up three runs on three hits and one walk and one hit batter.
Coons had two singles for the AA Indians while Taylor, Smith and Clint Heffern each had a single. Barclay hit two singles for the A Indians and Clubine doubled.
Iola AA plays at Burlington Tuesday then hosts Spring Hill Thursday.
