Rainfall shuffles regional play

Overnight rain north of Iola has forced another move in the saga of high school baseball and softball regional play.
The Kansas Class 4A Baseball Regional Tournament hosted by Osawa-tomie High School has been moved to Iola. That’s right here this afternoon and evening.
Iola High also is hosting a Class 4A regional track meet this afternoon at Riverside Park.
There is an admission charge for all postseason events.
The semifinal games and championship game will be played at Red Devil Field on the Allen County Community College campus.
Osawatomie takes on Ottawa at 3 o’clock, followed by Iola High’s Mustangs playing the Spring Hill High Broncos at 5:30. The regional championship game with a state tournament berth riding on it is at 7 p.m.
This is the third time in their six-year history that the Mustangs have reach-ed the semifinals of a regional tournament. They lost to Chanute in 2006 and to Anderson County in 2008.
Iola High’s Fillies are back in Ottawa today but at a different site. The Kansas  Class 4A Softball Regional Tournament hosted by Ottawa High School has been switched to Forest Park instead of Orlis Cox Softball Complex.
In the semifinal games, Paola plays Prairie View at 3 o’clock followed by the Iola-Ottawa game at 4:45. The championship game is at 6:30.
The Fillies are trying to notch their second straight 4A regional championship.
Rains this week moved all of the area high school regional tournaments around. They were all planned to be completed Wednesday but that didn’t happen.
Humboldt High took its Class 2-1A baseball regional tournament to Chanute. Those teams are playing this afternoon at Neosho County Community College’s baseball field.
Uniontown was scheduled to play Marmaton Valley at noon in the first semifinal. Jayhawk-Linn takes on Yates Center at 1:45.
The championship game is at 4:30.
Also today, Uniontown High is hosting a Class 2-1A softball regional tournament in Uniontown.
Pittsburg-Colgan plays Marmaton Valley at 3 o’clock in the first semifinal. Uniontown plays Jayhawk-Linn at 4:45.
The championship game  is at 6:30.
Yates Center High switched its Class 2-1A softball regional tournament to Saturday.
At Yates Center Saturday, Elk Valley plays Yates Center at 9 a.m. followed by West Elk taking on Humboldt at 10:45 a.m.
The championship game is at 12:30 p.m.
