Pony wrestlers bring home medals

PARSONS — In their next to last competition of the season, Iola Middle School’s wrestlers claimed 13 medals for top-three places in 17 weight brackets Tuesday at Parsons.

“We came out and wrestled better than we had in our previous meets,” said Ron Schomaker, IMS head coach, after the Ponies competed in the Parsons Middle School Invitational.

“We need to finish the season on a high note this last week. Hopefully we can do that in our final meet Thursday.”

The Ponies conclude their wrestling season Thursday at the Royster Middle School Invitational in Chanute.

At Parsons, Trey Colborn stayed undefeated with two pins to win his heavyweight bracket. He pinned Noland of Coffeyville and Amos of Chanute.

Trevor Cox pinned three opponents then won 17-12 over Kyser of Coffeyville to take first place in his weight bracket. He pinned Natalini of Frontenac, Wyrick of Chanute and Bass of Columbus.

Brock Peters had the same results, pinning Davis of Pittsburg, Yost of Chanute and Hurley of Parsons. And he beat Christensen of Columbus 9-2 to capture first place.

Stormy Reed defeated Hogge of Independence by a fall then was beaten 15-0 by Burtnett of Chanute. Reed took second place.

Jonathan Tidd went 4-1 for second in his weight bracket. He pinned Vaughn of Coffeyville, Leatherwood of Chanute and Britt of Columbus. Tidd lost 17-0 to Welch of Independence then came back to pin McBride of Frontenac.

Taking second in his weight class was Tryston Ingle with a 2-1 record on the night. He lost 3-2 to Shicke of Independence. Ingle pinned Lewis of Chanute and got past Roedel of Frontenac 8-6.

Kaleb Mock was 1-1 for second with a pin of Taylor of Pittsburg then losing by a fall to Hensley of Pittsburg. Chandler House took second, beating Montgomery of Independence 12-2 and pinning Eustice of Chanute then getting pinned by Robinson of Columbus.

Alex Bauer placed second in his bracket. He pinned Clark of Chanute and beat Walker of Chanute 3-1. Diego of Pittsburg pinned Bauer.

Jordan Long took third with a 4-3 loss to Kamron of Pittsburg and getting pinned by Paul of Chanute. Long finished strong with a pin of Napier of Columbus.

Brett Taylor went 1-2 for third as he beat Wools of Pittsburg 6-4. He was pinned by Medlock of Independence and Alvis of Pittsburg.

Brice Aiello was pinned by Watkins of Columbus and Honeycutt of Frontenac. Aiello came back to take third with a win by fall over Spencer of Independence.
