High School Track and Field: Iola Middle School
The Iola Middle School track and field team competed at a quad meet in Garnett Tuesday versus Wellsville, Central Heights and Anderson County.
The Iola seventh-grade girls finished seventh while the eighth-grade girls and the seventh- and eighth-grade boys finished third.
For the seventh-grade girls, Layla Holding took first in the 200-meter dash, running 29.94 seconds. Crystal Lindsey won the shot put with a distance of 29 feet, 7.5 inches and Celina Caron was tops in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 2 inches.
The 4×400 relay finished first with a time of 5:18.95.
The 4×100 (58.99), 4×200 (2:16.61) and medley relay teams (2:35.97) each took second.
Hannah Hall was the lone first-place individual finisher for the eighth-grade girls, earning gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.82. The eighth-grade 4×400 relay team also finished first with a time of 5:18.41.
Hall finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles (19.68) and the 200 meters with a time of 30.19.
Ursula Billings finished second in both the 800 (2:57.68) and 3200 (14:35) and Natalie Fees finished second in the 1600 (7:00.69). BreAnna Peeper finished third in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 2 inches.
The eighth-grade 4×100 (1:00.85) and the girls sprint medley relay team (2:32.92) each finished second.
The seventh-grade boys were led by a first-place finish from Kaster Trabuc in the 3200 meters (12:33.13) and second places finishes from Eli Adams in the 1600 (5:57.44), Justin McCullough in the high jump (46) and Holden Barker in the shot put (30-11.00).
Carter Hutton took second in both the 100- (13.80) and 400-meter dash (1:01.79).
The seventh-grade boys 4×100 team finished second (55.81) and the 4×200 finished third (2:05.04).
For the eighth-grade boys Brett Willis finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.33), Evan Casner finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.54 and Kolten LaCrone earned gold in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet.
Willis also finished second in the long jump (15-05.5) and Sean Hurst took second in the 1600 (5:41.73) and third in the 800 (2:45.48).
The 4×100 relay team finished third (53.78), the 4×200 team (1:53.18) and the 4×400 team (4:48.91) finished second.
