Ponies win three of four games

Iola Middle School’s eighth-grade A-team Ponies took a little while to get started at home Tuesday. Then it was off the to races for a 48-39 win over visiting Parsons.
Iola fell behind 16-9 by the end of the first quarter. Parsons controlled a 24-19 halftime advantage.
“We came out in the second half and played some pretty good basketball,” said Marty Taylor, IMS head coach.
Adam Kauth paced the Ponies with 19 points and eight rebounds. Tyler McIntosh tossed in 13 points, had six rebounds and two assists.
“Adam really played well in the second half,” Taylor said.
Trent Latta added 10 points while Bryan Mueller had four points. John Whitworth had one point and six rebounds while Tyler Powelson had one point, five rebounds and two assists.
In eighth-grade B -team action, Parsons beat Iola 29-12. Austin Snyder scored four for Iola. Jesse Zimmerman and Dylan Bryan each had three and Derrick Weir had two points.
Iola’s seventh-grade A-team used an 8-2 first quarter to spark a 34-21 victory over Parsons. Iola led 15-8 at halftime.
“Defensively, we were tough. The boys came out and gave a pretty good effort,” Taylor said.
Kaden Macha fired in nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Isaiah Grover had nine points and two assists.
Drew Faulhaber chipped in six points and Adam Peterson had four. Shane Walden and Alex Bauer each scored three points.
The IMS seventh-grade B-team claimed a 24-20 victory over Parsons. Matt Jacobs led the way with eight points.
Drake Dieker and Adam Peterson each had six points. Tyler Holloway and Brock Peters each had two points.
Iola goes to Burlington Thursday.
