Ponies take three of four in Osawatomie

OSAWATOMIE The Iola seventh-grade varsity boys notched a big 31-20 win over Osawatomie on Monday.

The Ponies got off to a quick start and built a 19-9 halftime lead with Ryker Curry and Karson Sigg leading the way. Curry had 10 points while Sigg added nine.

“Ryker was a team leader tonight, making some good passes to get our posts open and hitting some key shots,” Iola coach Scott Ellis said.

Cooper Riley and Tyler Boeken each scored six points.

“It was a group effort from all the boys,” Ellis said. “Our defense was relentless and it paid off for us.”

 

7TH GRADE JV

Brett Willis led the seventh-grade junior varsity to a 20-8 win over Osawatomie with eight points.

“Brett made some nice offensive plays for us,” Ellis said. “He found his spot and hit some big shots.”

Kobe Lord also had a big game with six points and Trenton Varney had three points.

T.J. Taylor had two points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds while Colin Long added one point.

 

8TH GRADE VARSITY

The Trojans were able to top Iola 38-26 in the eighth-grade varsity game by outscoring the Ponies 16-2 in the fourth quarter.

“We let one get by us tonight,” Ellis said. “Felt like we beat ourselves with too many turnovers and missed opportunities offensively. The guys played hard, but it just wasn’t our night.”
