The Iola eighth-grade volleyball team hosted Santa Fe Trail on Monday and came away with a win and a loss.
The A-Team lost in four sets while the B-Team won in four sets.
The A-team lost 17-25, 18-25, 25-22 and 16-25.
“This was a tough loss,” head coach Terri Carlin said. “I thought we could have won this one. After losing the first two sets, the girls came back to win the third. I really thought we were going to come back and get the next one, too. We just couldn’t score.”
Aysha Houk had an ace and five kills in the defeat. Carly Dreher had four aces, Khloeigh Shafer and Celina Caron had five assists each. Louise Caron had four aces and Cali Riley had three aces.
Jadyn Kaufman had a kill and Caiden Cloud and Abi Hirt each had an ace.
The B-Team won 25-14, 25-14, 25-8 and 25-26. Despite winning the first three sets, the B-Team always plays at least four sets.
“The girls were really working together,” Carlin said. “Santa Fe Trail was having a hard time passing our serves. We have several girls who serve underhand and the serves just dropped right in front of our opponents.”
Hurt had seven aces and Kaufman, Macie Hoag and Cloud each had five aces. Celina Caron and Dreher each had two aces.
Louise Caron had six kills, Kaufman had three kills, Celina Caron and Cloud had a kill and Elsie Fleming had a kill. Hoag had five assists and Celina Caron and Cloud each had an assist.
The Ponies will travel to Royster on Thursday for their final regular season match.
