Throngs of young athletes descended upon Iola’s Riverside Park Tuesday for the annual Iola Middle School Invitational, one of the largest such track meets around.
Students from 20 schools competed.
On the boys side, Iola took home third place in the seventh-grade division and seventh in eighth grade.
The Pony girls, meanwhile, took home 10th and 11th places, respectively, in seventh and eighth grades.
Among the other schools were Humboldt Middle School and Marmaton Valley Junior High.
Humboldt’s eighth-grade girls took eighth; the seventh-graders took 14th. The HMS boys finished 18th and 16th, respectively, in seventh and eighth grades.
Marmaton Valley’s eighth-grade girls finished in 13th; the seventh-grade girls finished in 17th. The MVJH boys also competed at the meet, but did not score in the blistering competition.
