Ponies go 1-2 in IMS Net Games

Iola Middle School’s seventh-grade volleyball team hosted the IMS Net Games Saturday.
The Ponies’ A-team opened the A-Division with a 21-19, 21-8 win over Marmaton Valley.
Mikaela Platt served four points and had one kill in the first game while Taylor Sell, Elise Wolf and Ashlie Shields each had three good serves.
In the second game, Abigail Taylor made four digs defensively for Iola. Shields had one kill. IMS seventh-grade coach Muffy Fehr said Sell and Platt dominated Marmaton Valley with their serving.
Marmaton Valley, which went 0-3 in the tournament, saw Misty Storrer serve seven points in the match. Tanna Lutz had four points while Kendra McNutt served for two and Makenizie Harrison had one service point.
Iola lost 21-13, 22-20 to Royster Middle School of Chanute. Fehr said Platt and Heslop served well in the first game and Wolf was effective at the net with two kills. Valaree Burtnett and Emily McKarnin had some “great digs in the second game”.
Pittsburg defeated Iola 21-12, 21-19. Sell, Platt and Shields led the serving for Iola. McKayli Cleaver had two digs.
Pittsburg beat Marmaton Valley 21-15, 21-18. Storrer served for six points followed by Molly Hamlin with five service points, Kyla Drake with four, Harrison with three and Mackenzie Tynon with one point.
Royster defeated Marmaton Valley 21-13, 21-9. Harrison served for three points. Serving up one point each were Tynon, Drake and Lutz.
“Our girls didn’t play up to their potential. Our four sixth-grade girls were some what scared and our two seventh-grade girls were disappointed we didn’t win a game,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH assistant coach.

IN THE B DIVISION, Iola finished second. The Ponies lost to Royster 23-21, 22-0 then beat Pittsburg 21-12, 21-7 and downed Independence 21-6, 21-19.
Members of the team were Olivia Bannister, Cassie Delich, Bobbi Sinclair, Blaze Hobbs, Klair Vogel, Joie Whitney, Allyson Hobbs and Taelyn Sutterby.
Iola’s seventh-grade volleyball teams concluded their season with the tournament.
