The Iola eighth-grade volleyball team wrapped up their season over the weekend at the Pioneer League tournament at Burlington.
All matches were best of three sets and the Ponies fell just short in both of the matches they played. Despite that, head coach Terri Carlin was proud of the effort she saw on the court in both losses.
Going into the tournament we talked about putting ourselves in a position to win every game we played, Carlin said. The girls did just that. They were competitive and worked hard in both matches.
Iola started things off with Santa Fe Trail and lost 25-19 and 25-22.
Aysha Houk had two aces and Celina Caron had one ace. Louise Caron had a kill and Caiden Cloud had an assist.
The Ponies then faced Osawatomie and though Iola was more competitive than when they met earlier this season, they still fell in three sets 16-25, 25-19 and 12-15.
Louise Caron had seven kills and two aces in the match while Celina Caron had four assists.
Caiden Cloud and Khloeigh Shafer each had three assists and Dallyn McGraw had three kills. Aysha Houk and Cali Riley each had a kill and Abi Hirt added two aces. Carly Dreher and Cloud each had an ace.
The Ponies will move into the basketball season later this month.
