Iola Middle School’s girl’s basketball teams fell to Coffeyville in all three games Tuesday night.
The eighth grade A-Team lost 49-33.
“The last couple of games we’ve had a stretch in the third quarter that we don’t handle well,” coach Marty Taylor said. “Tonight we gave up 10 points in about a minute and a half and that killed us.”
Madisyn Holloway led the Ponies in scoring with 14 points. Piper Moore scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds. Kendra Sprague had 5 points, while Mia Aronson and Kassy Shelby each scored 2 points.
The seventh grade A-Team lost a close game 23-20. Sydnie Keagle scored 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Gaby Lampe had 6 points as well and came down with 5 rebounds. Kelsey Morrison scored 4 points and had 5 rebounds. Ella Taylor scored 4 points.
“The girls gave a great effort tonight,” Taylor said. “Gaby and Ella were active and aggressive on defense. Sydnie, Kelsey and Allie did a good job of keeping their big girls off the glass.”
Iola’s combined B-Team of seventh and eighth graders lost 23-11. Charvelle Peterson scored 6 points to lead the team. Haley Carlin and Carlie Payne each scored 2 points. Gabby Richards made a free throw.
The Ponies play at Fort Scott on Thursday.
