GARNETT — Iola Middle School’s eighth grade A-Team basketball earned a big, 22-4, win over Anderson County Monday night.
“The girls came out and really gave a good effort tonight,” head coach Marty Taylor said. “In the second half, everyone played and did a good job.”
Piper Moore led the way with nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Madisyn Holloway scored five points and Mia Aronson scored four. Kendra Sprague scored four points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
“Mia and Shaylee (Sutterby) picked their games up and had very good nights,” Taylor said.
The eighth grade B-Team lost a close one to Anderson County, 10-6. Charvelle Peterson scored four points and Ashlie Nicholas scored two .
The seventh grade A-Team lost a nail-biter, 17-16.
“The girls played hard all night and did a lot of good things, we just didn’t handle the last two minutes very well,” Taylor said.
Sydnie Keagle led the team with 10 points and six rebounds. Kelsey Morrison added four points and grabbed five rebounds. Ella Taylor scored two points and had three rebounds.
The B-Team earned a 13-8 win. Gabby Richards led the Ponies with nine points while Nissa Fountain and Allie Fager each scored two points.
The teams will host Royster at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
