The Iola Middle School girl’s basketball team hosted Pittsburg for the first game of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon.
The Ponies lost all four games (A and B teams for each the seventh and eighth grade).
The eighth-grade A team lost 50-14. Kelsey Morrison led Iola with 10 points and five rebounds.
The eighth-grade B team lost 29-11. Elysia Kunkler led Iola with four points.
“The girls played hard, we let their press bother us too much but we’ll get back to work and get better,” coach Marty Taylor said.
The seventh-grade A team lost 40-6.
Jenna Miller, Kaley Schinstock and Andi Reynolds all had two points each. Miller and Lauryn Holloway tied for a team-high six rebounds.
The seventh-grade B team lost 22-12. Schinstock led Iola with four points.
“Not one of these girls had been on the floor for a basketball game so we got the nerves out of the way,” Taylor said.
The Ponies play Fort Scott next on Thursday.
