OTTAWA — Matthew Glenn Percy, whose father and grandfather both coached for Iola High School, has been named assistant golf coach at Ottawa University.
Percy grew up in Ottawa and graduated from Central Heights High School, Hutchinson Community College and Park University.
He attended both colleges on golf scholarships.
After graduation, Percy coached the golf team at Park.
He’s no stranger to Ottawa University. His mother, Lynn Madl Percy, played and coached both basketball and softball for the Braves.
His father, Mark Percy, coached football, baseball and softball at Ottawa as well, before starting up Iola High’s baseball program, and leading the Mustangs to the Class 4A-II state title in 2018. Percy’s grandfather, the late William Glenn Percy, whose extensive coaching career included a stint as head football coach at IHS, was his golf mentor from an early age, teaching him the sport at Allen County Country Club. Glenn Percy also coached football and served as athletic director at Ottawa.
Percy continues to play on the pro circuit during the summers and works part time for TaylorMade Golf.
He’s the grandson of Jeanne Ann Masterson Percy, who worked in the financial aid and business offices at Ottawa as well.
