HUMBOLDT — Through the smoke and dust generated by a massive fireworks display and an awesome USRA Modified feature, Springfield, Mo., driver Jeremy Payne, emerged as a champion.
Payne dominated the McCarthy Auto Group field, leading the field for a full 40 laps.
With only a handful of cautions, Payne had to deal with lapped traffic for much of the race, even as runner-up Darron Fuqua closed the gap and threatened to take the lead on numerous occasions. Carthage, Mo., driver Jackie Dalton, a newcomer, was third. John Allen and Matt Dotson raced their way into the main out of the “B” features, and finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Added money brought added competition to the ranks of the Ray’s Metal Depot/B-Mod feature. After 25 laps of non-stop, no-yellow racing, Jerry Hoffman led from wire to wire, even while dealing with lapped traffic. Chase Austin finished second, Humboldt Speedway mid-season points champ Jimmie Davis third, Jeremy Chambers fourth, and Dustin Thulin fifth.
In terms of car count, Factory Stock may have been the smallest class of the night, but the competition was again top-notch. Jeremy Wilson fought off Tyler James to win the feature. A strong showing by Patrick Kay netted third, while Clint Drake and Tim Phillips rounded out the top five.
Derrek Wilson overcame intense pressure generated by Brad Carroll to record yet another feature victory in the Whitworth Construction Pure Stock feature. Finishing third was Jared Hayden, followed by Jeremy Willard and Brett Testerman.
The folks at Hillsdale Storage provided the material for a post-race fireworks show that ran for the better part of an hour.
