Oswego too much for Marmaton Valley

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High had few answers for visiting Oswego’s towering post players and smothering defenders Tuesday evening.
So when the visiting Indians began to hit shot after shot from 3-point range, Marmaton Valley head coach Tim Stinnett could do little more than shake his head and wait for them to miss.
He waited for a while.
Oswego exploded out of the gate, to the tune of a 23-1 lead, and never looked back in a 64-25 victory.
The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Wildcats.
“That’s about as well as I’ve seen anybody shoot,” Stinnett said. “I don’t know how many they missed, but it wasn’t many.”
Oswego’s Tag Oldham was the primary culprit. He, Brent Yeoman and Kyler Dreiling all connected from downtown as the Indians opened a 41-9 halftime line.
Oldam then opened the second half with three 3-pointers over a two-minute stretch — with a steal and layup sprinkled in — as Oswego pushed its lead to 52-14.
Marmaton Valley found some traction, courtesy of senior guard Chance Stevenson, but it was too little, too late.
Stevenson scored seven of the Wildcats’ nine points before intermission, mostly coming from drives to the basket.
He also spearheaded the action in the third quarter. His driving layup with 34 seconds left in the period gave him 15 of the Wildcats’ 21 points.
“Chance has always been aggressive,” Stinnett said. “He was able to drive inside and that opened things up for us outside.”
Joe Jefferis, Micheal Genn, Keagan Boyd, Brady Newman and Gage Adams all had field goals for the Wildcats.
Oldman paced Oswego with 17. Yeoman scored 13.
Marmaton Valley (2-9) returns to action Friday at Pleasanton.
