LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s boys and girls teams ended the 2013-14 regular season on a sour note, dropping both games of a doubleheader against visiting Olpe. OLPE’S GIRLS led 34-13 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Titans 20-2 in the third period.
The SCC boys fell behind in the second quarter and could not make up the deficit in a 55-40 loss.
The Lady Titans trailed 19-9 after one quarter and 34-13 at halftime of a 61-24 defeat.
The contests had no bearing on Southern Coffey County’s seedings in the upcoming Class 1 A-I Substate Tournament.
The boys (14-6) will play St. Paul at 6 p.m. Thursday at Waverly, host of the tournament.
The Lady Titans (6-14) will take on Marmaton Valley tonight at 6 o’clock, also in Waverly. The winner gets top seed Marais des Cygnes Valley at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Olpe’s boys outscored SCC 17-9 in the second period to lead 24-16 after the teams were deadlocked, 7-7, after one. The lead grew to 43-29 by the end of the third quarter.
Aaron True led the way for SCC with 18 points. Josiah Witteman followed with eight. Chism Newkirk and Walker Harred scored four apiece.
Bo Kruger scored 16, Chance Stout had 13 and Joe Redeker 10 to pace Olpe.
Maycee Hegwald’s nine points paced SCC. Brianna Isch followed with five, Amanda Sherwood had four and Che-nae Newkirk, Brittne Brite and Miranda Alumbaugh had two apiece.
Kesley Hendricks scored 21 and Elana Flott had 18 for Olpe. Colleen Smith added 13.
